People who hear the word "desert" usually visualize a vast wasteland, sometimes with sandy dunes and sometimes with little more than scrub brush and stones.
But it's not true, at least here. In Israel, the desert is alive! I can prove it.
This is a shot of the Judean desert on the outskirts of Arad, a small city (pop. 27,000) nestled in the hills above the Dead Sea. Hundreds of flowers and medicinal plants suddenly appear after the winter rains begin.
